Life has a way of nudging us into transition, whether we’re ready or not. An empty nest, the end of a marriage, the leap into retirement—these moments are more than changes in circumstance. They’re invitations.
Invitations to ask ourselves: What’s next?
For some, the answer is to retreat. To shrink into the safety of the familiar. But for the bold, for the adventurous, for the women who know deep down that the best chapters of life are still ahead, the answer is something entirely different.
It’s a call to rediscover their power, courage, and joy.
That’s exactly where Canyon Calling steps in. And this year, as we celebrate 28 incredible years of creating life-changing adventures for women, we’re taking a moment to reflect on what makes these experiences so special.
A Movement 28 Years in the Making: Empowering Women Travelers
In 1996, Canyon Calling was born out of one woman’s vision to create something truly unique: an adventure travel company just for women. The goal wasn’t just to visit beautiful places—it was to build a community. A sanctuary where women could be unapologetically themselves, share their stories, and rediscover their strength.
Over nearly three decades, this mission hasn’t wavered. In fact, it’s grown stronger. Each trip has added a new layer of meaning to what Canyon Calling represents—a reminder that no matter where you are in life, you’re never too old, too inexperienced, or too “ordinary” to step into something extraordinary.
And if there’s one story that captures the spirit of Canyon Calling, it’s Deb’s.
Female Adventure Travel Story: From Heartbreak to Healing in Sedona
Deb came to Canyon Calling in one of the darkest seasons of her life. She had recently lost her only daughter to cancer, and the weight of her grief felt insurmountable. Heartbroken and searching for clarity, she came across Canyon Calling while looking for an escape—something to help her process her loss and figure out what comes next.
She booked a Canyon Calling trip to Sedona, hoping the beauty of the red rocks would soothe her soul.
But what she found was so much more than scenery.
On this very special women-only tour, Deb connected with a group of women who understood her pain and held space for her healing. She hiked through Sedona’s breathtaking landscapes, laughed again for the first time in months, and even visited a renowned local psychic who helped her see a glimmer of purpose amidst her sorrow.
That trip didn’t just lift the weight of grief; it gave her a renewed sense of self. Deb didn’t just leave with beautiful memories—she left with a sense of clarity about her future. So much so that she eventually relocated to Sedona, where she now lives surrounded by the landscapes that first brought her back to life.
For Deb, like so many others, Canyon Calling was more than a vacation. It was a turning point.
Women Only Tours: The Power of Traveling Together
Deb’s story is one of hundreds. Over the years, Canyon Calling has become a haven for women in transition. Empty nesters rediscover their independence, newly divorced women reclaim their confidence, and retirees embrace the joy of new beginnings.
Why do these trips create such profound transformations?
Because women thrive in community.
When you travel with Canyon Calling, something magical happens. You’re surrounded by women who see you, support you, and cheer you on. Whether you’re ziplining through a Costa Rican jungle or kayaking serene waters in the Southwest US, you’re reminded of your strength—not just by the adventure itself but by the women standing beside you.
These aren’t just vacations. They’re shared experiences that break down walls, build lifelong bonds, and spark growth in ways you never imagined.
