Adventure Travel Tours for Women to Costa Rica!
A short plane ride from the United States, Costa Rica is the only Central American country that has invested in education instead of a military. This peaceful nation is blessed with gorgeous beaches, volcanic mountains and dense, tropical rain forests supporting a bird and animal kingdom more varied than any country on earth. In the wild, we’ll see howler, capuchin and spider monkeys, lizards, orchids, butterflies, turtles, toucans, iguanas and macaws. The wide range of habitats makes Costa Rica a perfect destination for adventure travelers. Raft exciting white water on a pristine river, zip line near Lake Arenal, soak in hot pools, enjoy a chocolate tour and tasting, snorkel and see dolphins. This is a more relaxed pace than our Costa Rican Explorer trip. It’s also during high season with dry, beautiful weather. Staying in family-owned haciendas, beautifully landscaped resorts and hotels, and beach cabanas, we’ll meet the conservation-conscious locals who delight in sharing their friendly country with us. Come join us in February or April to enjoy a real chill vacation with enough activity to keep you engaged and enjoying this gorgeous country.
This was my first adventure trip and I enjoyed every minute – from the beautiful resorts to the howling monkeys, watching the baby turtles run to the ocean, the volcano Arenal and especially rafting the Pacuare. Thank you for a truly memorable experience.

Costa Rica Chill Out Trip Itinerary
Day 1
We’ll be arriving at the San Jose airport throughout the day. There is a free hotel shuttle to take you directly to the hotel and welcome meeting. Your Canyon Calling Trip Leader will be in the hotel lobby and get you checked in. Dinner is on your own tonight as flights will be arriving into the night. We may meet up for dinner depending on guest arrival times. Overnight San Jose.
Day 2
We’ll have our welcome breakfast then load into our van to travel to the beautiful mountainous area of Arenal. We pass through coffee plantations and peaceful country towns on our drive. Check into our beautiful resort for two nights, located close to Arenal volcano, one of the most active in the world. We’ll hike this afternoon and enjoy the lushness of the area. Tonight we dine at a lively restaurant walking distance to town. If it’s a cloudless night we may see the glow of the lava on Arenal volcano. Overnight LaFortuna.
Wow, what a great trip. The highlights for me were the thrill of watching 70 baby green turtles crawl to the sea and being massaged by a hot waterfall!
— Susan O, CA
Day 3
After breakfast it’s a short drive to our zip-lining adventure. We’ll put on our equipment and ride a Sky Tram high in the forest to a platform giving us wonderful views of Lake Arenal and the volcano. Guides will stop the tram for bird and monkey sightings along the way. At the top we’ll get a safety briefing for our zip line canopy trip back down to the base. We’ll zip-line down 1.7 miles on eight cables above the treetops. This is great fun and totally safe. The zip distances vary from 100’ to 2400’. Experts rate this the best zip line in the world! If you choose not to participate, there is a fun shop, restaurant and bar, and scenic patio to chill. After lunch in a nearby small town there’ll be time for shopping for some treasures to take home. This afternoon we’ll enjoy the pool before dinner. Overnight LaFortuna.
Day 4
After breakfast, we drive to our nature lovers resort for a two-night stay. The Eco Lodge is a place to explore trails, discover flora and fauna, and discover the secrets of the rainforest. This is a unique experience in a tropical rainforest while we help to conserve its biodiversity. We’ll have a chocolate tour and tasting after lunch. Ever wonder how chocolate is made? The local guide will teach us everything we want to know about cacao, chocolate history, tropical wildlife and of course chocolate making. Later this afternoon we’ll take a nature hike with our biologist guide. She introduces us to the amazing biological diversity that is Costa Rica. Blue morpho butterflies and bright birds fly nearby and monkeys chatter from high perches in this private rain forest reserve. We’ll check into the lodge and enjoy a delicious dinner and maybe an umbrella drink while we soak up the sounds of the rain forest at dusk. Overnight Sarapiqui.
You plan a hell of a trip! – so much activity with just the right amount of relaxation. Best of all – putting nine women together and just laughing!
— Meg W, PA
Day 5
After breakfast it’s a short transfer to the nearby Sarapiqui River for our white water rafting trip. The rapids are rated 2’s and 3’s so it’s a perfect river for those with little rafting experience and a fun day’s rafting for all. Winding through the region of the “Eternal Spring,” the Sarapiquí has its origins in clear mountain streams that tumble down through thick rain forest to merge with the crystal waters of the beautiful Sarapiquí. After the usual safety briefing we’ll climb into the rafts and begin this memorable journey downriver. Bring a splash case for your camera because the photo opportunities are endless. This is a gentle to moderate raft trip depending on the water level. A tasty picnic lunch will be served at the take-out.. fun and delicious! We’ll change into dry clothes and head back to our resort. We’ll have a leisurely afternoon and perhaps more exploration before dinner at the resort. Overnight Sarapiqui.
Day 6
After breakfast, we’ll board our van and head for the Caribbean for a two-night stay at a beach resort. This is a day transfer with many stops along the way for breaks, lunch in a small soda (restaurant), more chocolate perhaps, and laughing and chatting our way to the coast. This fun little town of Puerto Viejo has something for everyone. We’ll get settled into our resort with time to enjoy the beach or the beautiful pool. We’ll meet back up in time to enjoy dinner at the resort, maybe with live music! Overnight Puerto Viejo.
What a fun adventure! Loved the volcano and white water rafting in particular. Thanks for such a relaxing and rejuvenating trip.
— Jen O’S, PA
Day 7
After breakfast, we’ll head out for a Snorkeling tour. The Southern Caribbean is characterized by the largest reef system in Costa Rica, with deep water less than two miles offshore. Being at sea offers a mesmerizing view of shallow coral beds, dense jungle and diverse coastline. The stretch includes a protected area in the Cahuita National Park, creating beautiful private inlets perfect for all levels of snorkeling. Costa Rica’s Caribbean coast is home to three species of dolphins – the bottlenose, the Atlantic spotted dolphin, and the rare Guyana Tucuxi, whose range is confined to this area. With near-shore snorkeling, we have time for a short jungle hike where we’re likely to see howler monkeys, sloths, poison dart frogs and a variety of birds – maybe even the rare Great Green Macaw which is being reintroduced to this coast. After this fun day, we’ll have a bit of time in town for some last minute shopping. Dinner is at an excellent restaurant. Overnight Puerto Viejo.
Day 8
After breakfast, we’ll transfer back to San Jose with stops along the way. We check into our modern airport hotel with free shuttle service. We’ll arrange transfers back to the airport for tomorrow depending on your flight time. We’ll enjoy our farewell dinner together as we recount our week in beautiful Costa Rica. You’ll clearly understand the meaning of Pura Vida by now. Overnight San Jose.
